Reflections — The Neighbourhood
chapter 12 — what she still believed

what she still believed.

Even when she chose to leave, she didn’t rewrite everything as fake.

She believes I cared — truly. Not as a story I told, but as something I actually felt.

She believes I was trying — in my own, imperfect, sometimes misguided way.

She believes the memories mattered. They weren’t pretend to her either.

She believes the websites meant something. She understands why I built them — the prayers, the bucket list, the archive of small hopes.

She understands I was dealing with my own struggles — insecurities, pressure, things from before her that I hadn’t healed yet.

She didn’t leave because she thought my love was fake. She left because love alone wasn’t the only thing she needed. And I can hold both truths without turning one into a lie.
