Reflections — The Neighbourhood
chapter 10 — what she needed

what she needed.

Not later. Not after I became someone better. While we were still us.

01

Support

Not fixing everything for her — just standing beside her. Being someone she could lean on without feeling like she was asking for too much.

02

Consistency

Not big words on difficult nights, but small, steady proof on ordinary days. The quiet kind of reliability that lets someone exhale.

03

Trust

Not surveillance or reassurance loops — the simple, mutual belief that we were both choosing each other, clearly, in daylight.

04

Proper communication

Not ten messages when I was overwhelmed — one honest sentence, gently said, with space for her to respond without fear.

05

Feeling secure

Not being told she mattered after the fact, but feeling it while it counted — in how I spoke to her, how I treated her when no one was watching.

06

Being treated properly while we were together

That was the core of it. Not love promised for the future. Love practiced in the present.

She wasn’t asking for perfection. She was asking for presence. I understand that now — not as criticism, but as clarity.
